Application of waterproofing and large-sized ceramic tiles on concrete and plastered surfaces

Surface preparation

Care must be taken to ensure that the application area is durable, dry, clean, dust-free and suitable for the next steps. The surface must be free of all oil, rust, thick lubricating oil and paraffin residues that will weaken the adhesion, the surface must be free of debris and the surface must be saturated with moisture. Excess iron debris and wood chips must be removed and any gaps must be repaired on the surface two days in advance with a suitable TAMCRETE® repair material. The surface should be primed with UNIVERSAL ASTAR to reduce its absorbency and provide a durable adhesion surface.

Application of waterproofing

In wet areas such as bathrooms, a two-component flexible IZOMAX® C40 or fully flexible IZOMAX® C75 FLEX waterproofing product should be applied. Weak parts of floor, wall and corner joint lines should be reinforced with IZOMAX® PAH BANDs. After applying the first layer of waterproofing product by brush or roller the exact middle of the band should be placed in a way it coincides with the joint line of the surfaces. Each layer is applied in the opposite direction of one another. Depending on the temperature of the enviroment, the next layer should be applied after waiting 5-6 hours. After application, it should be allowed to dry completely for at least 7 days and leak tests should be carried out for 24 hours.

Application of ceramic tiles and joint filling

CERAMAX® class C2 according to EN12004-1 standard products with increased additional properties should be used for large-sized ceramic tile application over waterproof insulations. For long-lasting joint filler application in wet areas such as bathrooms FUGAMAX® FLEX should be used which is silicone-based, flexible, and antibacterial.
