Application of large size (>33x33cm) ceramic tiles on concrete and plastered surfaces

Surface preparation

Care must be taken to ensure that the application area is durable, dry, clean, dust-free and suitable for the next steps. The surface must be free of all oil, rust, thick lubricating oil and paraffin residues that will weaken the adhesion, the surface must be free of debris and the surface must be saturated with moisture. The surface should be primed with UNIVERSAL ASTAR to reduce its absorbency and provide a durable adhesion surface. Excess iron debris and wood chips must be removed and any gaps must be repaired on the surface two days in advance with a suitable TAMCRETE® repair material.

Application of ceramic tiles and joint filling

When applying large-sized ceramics, for its longevity, a double-sided method (the adhesive must be applied to both the ceramic and the surface to be applied) must be used, leaving too little joint space must be avoided. CERAMAX® class C2 according to EN12004-1 standard products with increased additional features should be used for large-sized ceramic tile application over waterproof insulations. For long-lasting joint filler application in wet areas such as bathrooms FUGAMAX® FLEX should be used which is silicone-based, flexible, and antibacterial.
