Application of cement-based waterproofing on balconies and terraces
Surface preparation
Care must be taken to ensure that the application area is durable, dry, clean, dust-free and suitable for the next steps. The surface must be free of all oil, rust, thick lubricating oil and paraffin residues that will weaken the adhesion, the surface must be free of debris and the surface must be saturated with moisture. The materials should not apply in areas that are frozen, thawing or at risk of freezing within 24 hours. Gaps between 5-20 mm deep should be repaired two days in advance with a suitable TAMCRETE® repair material. The surface should be primed with UNIVERSAL ASTAR to reduce its absorbency and provide a durable adhesion surface.
Application of water insulation
In areas like balconies and terraces, a two-component cement-based flexible IZOMAX® C40 or IZOMAX® C75 FLEX waterproofing product should be applied on concrete surfaces which are primed before waterproofing application. Weak parts of floor, wall and corner joint lines should be reinforced with IZOMAX® PAH BANDs. Exact middle of the chamfer bands should be placed on the coinciding lines of the different surfaces which were primed with water insulation product that was applied by a brush or a roller. Each layer is applied in the opposite direction of one another. Depending on the temperature of the enviroment, the next layer should be applied after waiting 5-6 hours.
After the insulation material is completely dry, it should be covered with high-density THERMOMAX® EPS boards for insulation protection. After laying the geotextile felt on the boards, it should be covered with protective concrete or pebble stones.
